Key Initiatives

First Annual FEMA Policy Agenda

In order to address the increased need of advocacy efforts for the flavor industry, FEMA developed the first policy agenda for the Association. The agenda will focus on the key policy priority areas of flavor safety, labeling, intellectual property protection, and tax and trade.

Preventive Controls Flow Chart

Facilities have the flexibility to tailor preventive controls to address hazards that occur in the products they manufacture. The preventive controls, which must be written, must be implemented to ensure that any hazards requiring a preventive control will be significantly minimized or prevented and help ensure that the food is not adulterated. In compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act, FEMA has created a food safety system based on prevention for it's members.

DISCUS/FIDS Revisions

The Alcohol Tax and Trade Committee (ATTC) provided their expertise to the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. (DISCUS), providing questions and comments regarding a revised version of the Flavor Ingredient Data (FID) Sheet. With the ATTC’s support, the Advertising, Labeling and Formulation Division of Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) agreed that the new FID Sheet could be used in alcohol submissions.

CPC Heat Map

The map, created by the CPCF, identifies critical issues and risks facing CPCs as it related to flavors.
