Over 1,700 FEMA GRAS substances have been accepted internationally through the United Nations FAO/WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), an important step toward the global harmonization of flavor ingredients.

FEMA distributes up to two awards annually; one to honor distinguished service to the flavor industry and one to a globally recognized researcher in the field of flavor science. FEMA also recently established a scholarship to reward a graduate student in the flavor science or a related flavor or food safety discipline in honor of Dr. Richard Hall.
