FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 7, 2021 -- During the 2021 Annual Leadership Conference held virtually on May 4-6, the Flavor & Extract Manufacturers Association of the United States (FEMA) honored two volunteers for their dedication and service to the association and the flavor industry.

Victoria Alvarez Saavedra (Virginia Dare Extract Co., Inc.) received the President’s Excellence in Service Award, which acknowledges individuals who have devoted a significant amount of time to build the pillars of the organization without serving on the Board of Governors or as FEMA President. She has been a leader in FEMA committees and activities for almost 20 years.

The Emerging Leader Award, recognizing new volunteers who demonstrate valuable leadership qualities to support FEMA’s mission, was presented to Alex Brewer (McCormick & Company). He has supported FEMA’s regulatory activities in leadership roles for more than five years.

“Both of these volunteers have been instrumental in advancing FEMA’s important committee initiatives which are vitally important to all of our members,” Executive Director Jerry Bowman said. “Particularly in the past year, these leaders showed extraordinary commitment to advancing FEMA’s strategic goals, and we thank them for their service.”

The conference, attended by decisionmakers, managers and executives across the flavor industry, hosted educational sessions and networking activities that provided leadership perspectives, guidance and support to navigate the changing business landscape.

FEMA also hosted peer roundtables, a new small-group discussion format allowing colleagues to share their experiences keeping teams connected, maintaining relationships with stakeholders, growing as new professionals or women in the flavor industry, and more.

The 2022 Annual Leadership Conference will be held May 1-3, 2022, at the Breakers in Palm Beach, Fl. For more information on the 2021 event, please visit the meeting website.
