Founded in 1969, the International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI) is the global association representing the industry that creates, produces and sells flavorings worldwide. With 17 regional and national associations and 11 major global companies as members, a management staff of scientific and regulatory experts located in Brussels and Washington D.C. and a network of top-notch industry volunteers, IOFI interacts with stakeholders around the world.

With a history of more than 50 years, IOFI will continue to play an active role in the future as the voice of the global flavoring industry and work to ensure the international trade of products that add great value to the food and beverages consumed around the world.

Webinar: Introduction to IOFI Key Resources

This webinar provides an overview on how to navigate and make the best use of IOFI’s available resources

Webinar: Understanding the IFRA-IOFI GHS Labeling Manual

This webinar provides background on, and an overview of, the information presented in the IFRA/IOFI GHS Labeling Manual, explains how each attachment can assist members engaged in hazard classification of substances or mixtures, and describes the benefits of breaking down Natural Complex Substances (NCS) by constituent when classifying certain mixtures.

IOFI Code of Practice

The Code of Practice is a set of voluntary best practices regarding the safety, composition, manufacture, description and labeling of flavorings.

Global Reference List (GRL)

The GRL is a compendium of details about evaluation status of flavoring materials considered to be safe for their intended use by one or more internationally recognized assessment bodies. The GRL is sub-divided in two parts: Part 1 contains chemically defined substances (CDS) and Part 2 contains source materials and / or natural complex substances (NCS).

IOFI Regulatory Database

The IOFI database on regulatory information for chemically defined flavoring substances contains up-to-date regulatory and analytical information on almost 2,800 flavoring substances used in global commerce including regulatory acceptance for many countries/regions around the world.

RIFM Database

Supported by both the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) and IOFI, the RIFM database is the most comprehensive, worldwide source of toxicology data, literature and general information on fragrance and flavor raw materials, classifying more than 6,000 materials. With the support of IOFI for flavor raw material information, RIFM conducts literature searches on fragrance materials and flavor/fragrance materials and collects member company data on materials. It currently has over 70,000 references and houses more than 135,000 human health and environmental studies. Basic material information includes CAS numbers, synonyms, structures, molecular formulas and weights, physical properties, and material relationships such as isomers and metabolites. FEMA members are eligible to subscribe to the database at the IOFI member rate.
